I have had many doggie doors throughout my life and this is by far the worst design when it comes to the cover. My dogs can remove the cover easier than me. What happened to the good old slide down covers that lock in place? I have had to order two covers, one for each side just to try and keep my dogs in or out when needed.

PETSAFE RESPONSE:

We're very sorry to hear about the issues that you've had with your Snap-On Closing Panel, Asha! The best way to secure this particular closing panel to the door is to first grab the two handles on the sides of the closing panel. When you have a grip on them, press into the center of the closing panel with your thumbs and at the same time pull out on the handles. While doing this, push the panel onto the front of the door frame and slowly stop pressing in with your thumbs. The sides of the closing panel should secure to the edges of the pet door frame.

If the panel seems to be properly secured to the door, but is still able to be knocked off the frame easily, please give us a call at the number 1-866-738-4379 and we would be more than happy to help in any way we can!

This type of pet door was installed for my sister's dogs to use. She has not been able to use the plastic cover at all. I have tried to help her remove the cover, but it is difficult for either of us to get down on the floor to hold & press in with thumbs while snapping off the edges as you suggest. I have ripped my fingernails off down to the quick twice trying to snap this darn cover off. Who designed this? I own 3 metal sliding cover pet doors and have never had a problem. We are now going to have to pay someone to replace this defective item. (Also installed cat door...same problem.)

PETSAFE RESPONSE: Thanks so much for providing us with your feedback on the closing panel, Jane! We appreciate your taking the time to provide us with your views on the Snap-On Closing Panel Pet Door Cover. One thing you may wish to do if you have not done so already is check that the interior frame of the pet door is on the inside. Depending on the style of pet door you have, it's possible the door has been installed "backwards" and this might be the cause of the issue you are experiencing. If you try this and continue to have any difficulties with either of your pet doors, please give our Customer Care Center a call we'll be happy to see how we can help! We can be reached by calling 1-866-738-4379. We are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Eastern and on Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern,

The dog door itself was great in helping keep out the wind. What isn't great is the cheap designed plastic snap on cover. More times than not I must kick it from the other side to help get it popped off. You have to about do the same thing when you want to snap it on. Good thing I don't need to do that often!

PETSAFE RESPONSE:

There is a bit of a trick to using this particular closing panel. The best way to remove it is to first place both your thumbs near the center of the closing panel. Then, with your thumbs kept in place, grab the two handles on the sides of the closing panel. When you have a grip on them, press into the center of the closing panel with your thumbs and at the same time pull out on the handles. It should pop right off. To secure it to the door properly, simply repeat this process in reverse.

If you try this and are still having issues with the panel, please give us a call at the number 1-866-738-4379. We are available from 8 AM-8 PM EST and 9 AM-5 PM EST on Saturdays.

I'm adding my review as well in hopes that this door cover is completely redesigned. It's difficult to put on and difficult to take off (unless you're a dog). I have to put this door on and then stack weights in front of it to keep the dogs from pushing it off. Much as I hate to I have to order a replacement because I forgot to place the weights in front of it and the dog pushed on one side and broke the tab off of the inside.

Please consider a redesign.

PETSAFE RESPONSE

Thank you for providing your feedback on the Snap-On Closing Panel Pet Door Cover. We can understand your frustration and we are sorry to hear that this panel has not met your needs and expectations. Please know that this will be passed on to the appropriate parties for review and feedback. Please know that it is easy to install this door backwards. If this is the case, the closing panel does not attach very well and would be easy to pop off. Please ensure that the door is installed with the interior side of the frame inside the house. This side will have little notches around the edge of the frame and the flap is attached to the interior side of the frame.

This snap on panel keeps my Malamute and Akita effectively outside when necessary. I actually broke the panel when I had to break in to my own home after forgetting a key so I'm ordering a replacement, but those customers who are having issues most likely installed the door incorrectly. As I said, it keeps my big dogs in/out when needed.

This cover has been effective for keeping my mini schnauzer and toddler in the house. When we first purchased the door, there was a learning curve for getting it properly on and off. When not snapped on properly, it's totally ineffective, though it will appear to be on. In fact, we were initially so disappointed that we added Velcro strips to secure it to the door. We soon realized there was a technique to snapping the door in place. (Hook one side on, then press the other on, bowing the cover slightly if necessary). Properly snapped on, it is a tight fit. Removal isn't intuitive because you need to press the center of the cover to bow it and then unhook the sides to snap it off. I do suspect a motivated adult could kick it in from the backside, so perhaps a very large dog could ram it off, too. Adding a second cover to the other side could minimize this vulnerability.

My 12 month old grandchild pops this cover right off and walks out door..

Pet Safe please please please discontinue this door. It was a good theory but listen to your customers! It doesn't work. You'll spend 15 min trying to get the darn door secure, only to have your little pup come knocking it down with ease. Very disappointed you continue to sale. It only makes you look bad.

Now, call me crazy, but offer your customers a decent alternative with out a ne cut out or door. Simply a panel frame that you can secure (screw) around existing frame that uses the same groove /sliding / telescoping technology that people love you for. I can even design it for you! Do right by your customers please!

On a positive note the young lady I talked to in customer service gets "*****"! But she can't fix a stupid design (no offense).

The door is exactly as described. It snaps on and off. It is a bit tight initially, but needs to be. Shipping was fast. So disappointed that the company feels the need to charge such an exorbitant price for a piece of plastic. It cost me $30 with shipping for a large cover that probably costs 10 cents to manufacture. I'm all about companies being profitable, but this is no where near a fair price. But since I cannot fabricate my own, I guess I'll pay what I have to!

Have had to continue to purchase replacements as this product continues to crack and break. The replacements are very hard to remove when first used. After much use the panel gets too stretch and barely stays on the door. I would not recommend this type of dog door/cover. A dog door with a slide in/down insert to close the dog door would be a better design to go with.

Love the door and so does my pointer. But I just figured out how she is getting out when I don't want her to. She pushes the center of the door with her nose and the sides pop and she is singing born free once again. Also has blown through it easily at her 45 lbs. No way to really secure this door when we leave town. I am a theater designer and once again have to figure out how to make something work that I already paid quite a bit of money for. I checked the website and don't see another door insert for real security available.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear of the problem you've encountered with your Snap-On Closing Panel! We can understand your concern for your clever pup, and we are happy to help! Depending on the door you have, it may be possible to have 2 closing panels in place, one on the inside and one on the outside, to help prevent your pet from leaving at her leisure. To find out if your door has the ability to use 2 closing panels, please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677 for assistance. If your door is designed for only one panel, however, we would be happy to offer replacement options to better fit you and your pointer's needs.

I wish I had read reviews on this first but found out the hard way that these door caps just don't cut it ! now I need to replace the one I have really don't think its fair to have to pay to replace a inferior product @ my expense. Your doors work well but the caps leave a lot to desire.

We have struggled with this cheap contraption. Some days I needed a pair of pliers just to get it off. Then my puppy was able to tear it off and proceed to tear it up! What a joke. I see I'm not the only one as there are many out there with this same issue. How about a redesign and supply one to your valuable customers? I have another door of yours for our exterior door and it functions as it should. C'mon PetSafe!

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear the Snap-On Closing Panel does not meet your expectations! Please know that there are tabs on each side of the closing panel that should be helpful when removing the panel. This product does include a 1-year limited warranty, and we will be attempting to contact you to provide possible replacement options. Our cat door is positioned high in a window so it's difficult to get a good grip on the flaps to open the door. We've been using a pliers but the flaps eventually snapped off. If it was made of a more rubbery than rigid material it would be easier to get it on and off but it would have to snap shut tightly because otherwise the cats can get it off. Needs a redesign.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear that the design of the Snap-On Closing Panel has failed to meet your expectations! We can understand how frustrating it must be to struggle to remove the panel. Because you have a cat door that seems to be a little hard to reach, there may be another style door that would better fit your needs. Please know that we do offer Electronic Smart Doors or Magnetic Cat Flaps which offer different locking options. I have two issues here. Like everyone else that's reviewed this plastic piece of junk. 1) It breaks way too easy and is easily pushed off by medium to larger dogs. I had to duct tape it on and that only worked for a short while. Duct tape, not the fault of PetSafe. 2) I wanted to get a replacement because my younger dog who still loves to chew is getting into the garage again and chewing. Well, I can't seem to find a replacement for it. Mine is 16" wide by 27" long. Does this size even exist anymore?

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear that you have encountered problems with your Snap-On Closing Panel. Please know that this product does include a 1 year limited warranty. Depending on the door you have, you may be able to use 2 closing panels to put one on each side of your frame. Adding the additional closing panel can sometimes help prevent your pet from pushing through. The measurements you gave should be an XL size closing panel, which we do have in stock through our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677. Please know that we will be following with you to help get the replacement that you need.

My dog pops this cover off with her nose in a few seconds. If I put the cover on the opposite side, she can push right through it. So even if I felt like investing any more money into this ineffective system, it wouldn't work.
As for the "extreme weather" door itself . . . gaps in the sides of the flaps let in so much cold air that the inside flap is iced over today - it's 8 degrees outside. I can see daylight on both sides of the flaps. I have pictures to show the problems.
I don't want to purchase ANYTHING to "fix" the flaws in this door. I want a refund. And a new kitchen door - so I can start over with something different. Why is there not a no-star option??
ARE YOU LISTENING PETSAFE????

I have installed your 10 1/2 x15 plastic pet door. The door itself is fine; however my dogs can easily scratch the panel off and go outside whenever they wish, which most often is at night when they can incessantly "bark at the moon". Fortunately, I have a fenced-in back yard so they are contained. But they disturb the neighborhood. Being dogs, they don't understand my admonitions.

Unfortunately I have to agree with another review stating that the plastic door does not keep a fairly smart dog in who wants back out. The type of door that has the slide down panel into grooves on the door frame is a much better design and more dog proof.

I had a similar problem with this door, except the wind blows the door off during storms. I purchased the Extreme Weather Pet Door hoping it would help keep out the cold wind, rain and snow. It does have three panels to help keep out the weather, but the wind just blows it open as well. I'm guessing I'll need to purchase another Snap-On Closing Panel so I can put one on the outside of the doggie door as well as the inside doggie door. Because we upgraded our doggie door, the time, effort and cost it took to put in this new door, it isn't worth purchasing another single flap doggie door with an inserted doggie closing panel even though it worked better than this new one.

This is the closing panel that comes standard with the extreme weather pet door. And its a joke!

I have 3 dogs. I used to put this thing on if I wanted to be sure they stayed inside while I was gone for a while because I had a neighbor complaining about barking. Before I could get into my car, the dogs were outside . . . barking because they were being left behind.

This is an expensive pet door. The closing panel should be MUCH MORE SECURE!!
