We bought one to keep our cats off the kitchen counters and table. After jumping on to it a few times on the low setting they came to understand that they don't like it. We then started moving it around to different areas and haven't had an issue since. We have a second one to keep them away from scratching at the bedroom door at night.

I originally purchased this item in hopes of keeping my cat off the kitchen cupboard. I unrolled it and let it sit to flatten it out for a couple of days before I turned it on. I placed it on the kitchen cupboard and turned it on. As soon as I turned it on it started activating and continued to do so repeatedly until I turned it off. There was nothing touching the mat the entire time. I tried it on the kitchen table and both hardwood and carpet floors in my house and it behaved the same way no matter where it was placed. I called customer service and they sent me a replacement unit. The replacement unit did the same thing. I called again and they sent me a third unit and guess what.....IT DOES THE SAME EXACT THING!!!! I am beyond frustrated with this product and still have a cat that jumps on the kitchen cupboard.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered with your ScatMat product! We can understand how frustrating this must be, but we are happy to help! If the red activity indicator light is lit when there is nothing touching the mat, there are a few different things that may cause this. Please know that once you turn on your device, the red light will flash for a few seconds before turning off to indicate how many times it was touched the last time it was used. For example, if the mat was left on overnight and in the morning it was turned it off and on again, the light will flash 10 times to indicate that the cat triggered the mat 10 times during the night. After it stops flashing, it should return to its normal operation. If the light is dimmer than usual, it may be necessary to replace your battery. Also, the battery pack may not be properly connected and may need to be removed and reattached. If these steps do not resolve the issue, the Scat Mat could be affected by electronic interference from a large appliance nearby (i.e. a refrigerator). This can be solved by re-positioning the mat. If electronic interference is the culprit, and you are unable to move the mat to a different location, we may have other pet deterrents that are more suitable to fit your needs.
