LOVE IT!, 8/13/14

I absolutely LOVE this toy! I was at an agility seminar with my "motivationally challenged" dog. The trainer threw this toy and once she figured out there was a treat inside she went NUTS for it. It is a staple in my agility bag for her. I take it out and show her and she gets all excited. This once nervous dog has learned through this toy that agility is fun! She is not a tugger, but is food motivated so this toy works perfect for her. It also encourages her to work away from me because I can throw the ball where I want her to go and not have to be right there to reward her.

This is a must have toy for any agility handler, or anyone who wants to have to dog work away from you. It isn't a toy for them to just chew on or tug with. It is only to be used during training. It can be tossed at a pretty good distance, and the dog can run ahead of you, open it up, and be rewarded at a distance instead of having to return to you for a game of tug or a treat (which certainly have their place in training). You can have an assistant toss the lotus ball for you instead to prevent the dog from looking back at you. If you want to teach "go on", or get Gamblers, Jackpot or FAST, this little ball has been so helpful in giving the dog the reward away from you. Once you teach the dog how to open the toy, you have a real tool for training. I love it! They are a bit fragile, and will not tolerate being just chewed on, and the Velcro will wear out. But for the price, you get your money's worth from it. Just buy a couple. I recommend the small one for any sized dog. Pointy nosed dogs seem to have an easier time opening them up than blunt nosed dogs, but any can learn.

I have a couple of these for agility training. It's a great way to throw a reward that the dog can see, then rip into to get a treat. If you show your dog how to get at the treat, they learn quickly how to rip the toy open and get the reward. This is a great toy for play/training WITH you-- not necessarily to be left alone with the dog.

Bought this to keep our 5 lb. Yorkie mix busy. She chewed through the bottom to get to the treat and pulled all of the stuffing out of it! Save your money.
