We bought this collar in November 2013, and it's already dead. Tried new batteries, but they were not the solution. The original collar that came with the system lasted 3.5 years, but this one half that amount of time. We've also had to replace the transmitter in that time span. It's not affordable if the collar and/or transmitter needs replacing every 1.5-2 years.

We are sorry to read of the trouble that you are having with your collar. There can be many factors in situations such as these. The transmitters are susceptible to power surges, and we have a surge protector to help with this. For the collar, try removing the battery, press and hold the level set button to drain the battery memory. Additionally, look inside the housing for a small metal tab, lift it up a little with your fingernail (it is tiny, I know!) to ensure good contact with the battery. If this doesn't fix the issue, please give us a call so that we can help you find a solution at 1-800-732-2677. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M. – 8 P.M. I've had ours for almost two years and it's a lifesaver for our boxers! We are getting ready to purchase another collar for our baby boxer! With 3 extremely hyper boxes it's hard to always keep up! I never have to worry about them getting out into the road or running off while they have collars on and that's a relief! We are able to let them play and romp without worrying!! Thank you!!

I have had the system less than a 6 months, have 2 dogs, I use the Ultra Light on our smaller Dog, Came home one evening to find that one of the prongs completely broke off! Now the battery needs replacing as well. I don't have the receipt for purchase and no way of replacing the collar. We live in a rental house so no fence and no option to put one in! Disappointed to say the least for the $$$ cost I spent I expected much high quality. And now my one of my dogs has to be placed on leash to go outside and can't run and play like she is used to doing while the other plays! I will not recommend this product!

We have had our petsafe underground fence for 8 years and I am now going to have to order yet another collar to replace a broken one. I've lost track and am not sure if this is #4 or 5. One of them the neck prongs broke right off and the others have just stopped working for us. I have also had an issue with buying replacement batteries and them not working when received and the underground wire has had to be fixed multiple times as well... Overall disappointed with this product but it's way to much work and money to replace the whole system for a 3 acre yard...

I have 6 broken collars in my drawer. I love the fence system and I feel confident when the collars work. The collars only last about a year and half. They are expensive to replace. When we first bought the system the extra collar was $40 now it is $80 plus, if I can find them in the stores.
I am disappointed in the quality of the collars.

We installed our underground fence system about 8 years ago for our 2 dogs. After about 3 years the collars quit working and had to be replaced. Since that time our dogs are getting older (less active) but the collars are failing faster and faster. Our fence system gives our dogs about 3 acres of space to run so replacing the system is no easy task.

Yesterday we were informed that our dogs are roaming the area, and again found that the collars have quit working. About 6 months ago we purchased a new collar and it totally fell apart within two weeks. Since we do have a large area we can not find all the parts to even try for a refund. We are currently replacing collars #6 and #7 in the past 5 years. Not only has it become frustrating having to replace collars so often, but our trust in the product is waivering.

Has the quality of the collars decreased that much?

My comment will be similar to Paul's comment.

I have been using the system for over 8 years before I had to replace anything. Almost everything was perfect, except the collar.
My dog learned extremely fast, and was happy to run around and play in my huge garden, while it gave me the peace of mind, knowing that he could stay outside for hours without getting lost in the woods (he loved chasing the deer), or running after the cars on the road, especially in the night because the dog is totally black: even a careful driver could have hit him.

The red collar that came with the receiver, was of poor quality, and after a few years, I installed the receiver on another more robust collar.

The initial guaranty was 3 years.

About one year ago, it still worked, but according to the seller who I had called for another problem, was not as good as the news one: he showed me the difference and I agreed.

So I bought the new "improved" one.

This time, the guaranty was only one year, but I did not care too much, because the first one had lasted so many years without problems.

But now the new receiver is really broken: seems that a contact moves inside, so it works on and off, depending on slight movements.
My dog ran away everyday in the past 4 days.

But - well calculated - it broke just a few days after the one year guaranty expired...

The collars are junk, why would you use stich cheap plastic snap connections that clearly aren't going to last for 5 to 10 years? Cutting back on the dollars spent on production? Clearly.

I've used this fence and collars for 15+ years, through 2 homes and 5 wonderful dogs. Eventually the collars do wear out or get damaged by my dogs. I just call up customer service and they help me get a replacement collar for much less than retail. My fence was struck by a direct lightning hit once as well and the replacement for it was also a simple process and affordable.

I like your products and business. I used to install your fences professionally. I chose PetSafe for many reasons but ultimately believing your product to be the best. My disappointment began when you changed to the proprietary battery. It is inconvenient and more expensive, but more, the collars have not been nearly as good. I've purchased more new Deluxe collars in the past several years then years prior. The collars used to last more than 3 to 5 years, even 12 years. Those collars had a ten year warranty. Now I purchase a new collar every 13 months or less. These collars have one year warranty. Is the proof in the warranty? Perhaps you don't believe in these collars either. I will try the new expensive rechargeable collar, hoping this is your "flagship" collar, otherwise I'm jumping ship!
