Wonderful!!, 7/30/14

Our German Shepard Dog became too big for me to control while training her. Our breeder and friends recommended this remote trainer. It worked wonders! She responds so well to the beeping now that I hardly ever need to push the yellow button! But...my mistake leaving the collar where she could reach it and she chewed the collar off the unit! Is there anyway to get a replacement collar for the unit?

Great Collar with Great Service, 7/27/14

Over the last ten years I have owned 2 collars for my 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks. The collars worked great! Approximately 13 months ago I had a purchased my second collar. Recently we noticed that the range on the collar was not working correctly. I contacted customer service and advised them of the problem. They honored the 1 year warranty and within days I received a new collar. I have recommended this collar to several friends and family members with large dogs who are all very satisfied. I would highly recommend this collar to anyone with a dog.

It's OK for a while, 7/10/14

I've gone through two collars and three transmitters in less than 4 years. For the money you spend on this I would expect it to last longer with normal use, which for me was about 4 hours of wear per day. I'll probably try a different brand the next time this one goes kaput, but my collar still works so it only cost me about $50 to replace the remote.

When it does work, it is very nice, holds charge for a long time, easily adjustable, and keeps my linebacker of a lab in line.

Best device ever!, 7/9/14

We own a Golden Retriever who loves the water more than anything in the world. We have a pond in the back yard and live 15 minutes from the ocean. This device has given our Gabriel so much more freedom in and out of the water as well as more time with the family when we go to the boardwalk, etc. because we dont have to worry about him running off or holding a leash. However, after getting out of the pond, I removed his collar and placed it on the back bumper of my car while hosing him off. Needless to say, it's gone. Is there any way I could purchase the collar only?

I have owned this collar for almost two years. As soon as my dog finally got it wet, it stopped working unless I stand right next to him. I would have bought a different product if I knew I was paying a hundred dollars a year to use it.

Love it!, 7/7/14

We have had this collar for probably 3 years and it has worked great. We have a cottage on a lake and our lab is in and out of the water consistantly. Last week the collar has started to beep periodically and for long periods of time. Does anyone know if the rechargeable batteries in these units can be changed? I am wondering if the problem is the rechargeable battery.

Not Waterproof!, 6/29/14

I purchased this training collar about 2 years ago and it really has worked great and we love it. Our only complaint was that after the first time our dog went into the water with it, the lower left button (the button that does the 1 boost static correction) quit working or was very intermittent! Our dog LOVES to swim so he goes often which is why I bought this particular training collar. We dealt with it for a long time now by only using the red button when absolutely necessary (usually the tone button was all we needed to just get his attention), but now none of the buttons will work and the collar will not blink green or red at all - it has completely quit working. Very frustrated. I will start researching for better waterproof collars!!

Nothing but problems, 6/20/14

This is my third time purchasing this collar over the past two years and quite frankly I'm getting tired of wasting time and money on these products. It's never a good thing when you don't feel safe taking your pet out because you never know when this thing will up and decide to stop working. My disappointment has taken over all the other positive things I used to feel with this company. It seems that no one wants to help and they just want you to keep dropping hundreds one something that's not even a sure thing after 6 months.

Worked good at first but not now, 6/19/14

I puchased the Elite Big Dog Static Remote Trainer for my female boxer. I only use it on the weekends in the summer when we go camping. At first it worked great she would respond to just the beep. Then she started not responding so I would go up to her and push the tone button and I could hear it beep and she would respond. But when I get more than 2 or 3 feet away from her it doesn't work. For the price I paid for it I would think it would last a little longer. I'm am disappointed in this product!Don't know what to do with it now.

Seeing a pattern , 6/18/14

It worked for about 8 months and I had the two dog collars. The dogs learned well and I was this collar systems biggest fan! Then one day the entire thing quit working. First I thought it was the collars not responding anymore so I sucked it up and bought a new collar thinking it would fix the problem. It just came in the mail today and after a full charge with the hand remote I come to find out it is the remote that wount work. It is rechargeable so there is no batteries. I should have read the reviews before buying another collar. This seems to be a common problem.

No Problems, 5/20/14

I've had this collar for four years, use it daily, and have never had a problem with it. I have a German Shorthaired Pointer and a Great Dane, and neither of them have needed a correction above a 4 (out of 10). I accidentally switched it to two dog mode one time, but Petsafe customer service had it working again in minutes with one phone call. My dogs are in and out of water, run long distances, play super hard, and the collar has never come off or failed. I'm going to buy another soon, and will be getting this exact model because it has been amazing.

You people are silly. I have had petsafe shock collar for four years now. Only had to replace the remote because dog chewed it. My dog is under water more than he is on land and I have never had a problem.I would/do recommend this to all problem dogs. This is the second dog I have trained with the same collar and it works great I am very pleased. Both of my dogs are 60+ pounds. Customer service is very good as well. Very quick and helpful.

worked great from the start...but, 5/5/14

I purchased the Petsafe 1000 for my indoor dog. He wears the collar 3 - 4 times per day maybe 10 minutes at a time when he goes outside. We have owned the collar for a little over a year and now it doesn't work when he walks over 10 feet from me. I am very disappointed that the collar didn't last considering the expense of the upgraded collar. By the way this is the 3rd petsafe collar I have owned and my dog is only 4 1/2 years old. Not sure where to look now but my $200.00 collar is now an expensive decoration.

Very poor quality, 5/4/14

I have two 60lb dogs that have gone through 3 collars and 2 remotes. The collars were easy for the dogs to roll around and have them fall off. The remote just stopped working. We are down to one collar that works and for some reason it only works from a very short distance. Not sure if it is an issue with the collar or the remote but overall the product is very poorly made considering the price. We have only been using petsafe for 2 years now and we will be purchasing another brand for sure.

Poor Quality Collar, 4/25/14

Have 90 + lb. Lab he rolls around on ground & rubs his neck on ground until his collar comes loose. Have had to walk for hours looking for his lost collar, this has happened twice now, am not happy. Does not seem to make any difference how loose or tight I install the collar.

Seems to be a recurring theme. The collar was very effective. After a year the range decreased from a few hundred yards to about 6 feet. This is the rechargeable version so there are no batteries to change. The collar and remote have been fully charged, but the range just isn't there. For the price of the product, I wouldn't purchase another one of these.

Worked Great for just a little while, 4/21/14

The first couple months the collars worked great.....but now, nothing other than the warning beep works, I tested it on myself starting at the lowest level, then all the way up to highest level, The collars flash green signal indicating they are charged... But, Nothing happens (Dead).....Luckily The warning signal still works for my dogs, the minute I give out a yell and push that warning button they come running!, I have a 8 acre yard on a 24.55 acre lot out in the Country, When I chose to purchase these collars I figured they would be more suitable of our needs because of the vast area we have for them to Run, Play and Explore on, Verses the invisible fence systems I also looked at (which would limit their space considerably from what's actually available to them) But after Spending almost 300.00 on these collars for such a short time, I wouldn't do it again or recommend anyone to waste their money....Well I can't say it was a "complete waste", My dogs are at least smart enough to have learned in that short time that if they didn't listen and stay within the Boundaries what comes after the warning....So far,They are the only who don't know the static part Don't work anymore.

Great product and service, 4/21/14

We bought the Elite big dog static collar and remote over a year ago and have had great success with it. It was well worth the money because it was the only thing our Boxer listened to during training. At one point we thought there was an issue with the remote not charging but after calling the 800 number and talking with a representative we realized it was a simple matter that could be corrected. The representative was very courteous and helpful. I would definitely recommend this product and Petsafe in general.

just bought it, charged it, collar has green light the remote control is not coming on. I bought the most expensive one you have. :(

Had my dog trained of bad habits within 2 weeks and now my neighbor likes me again lol two problems fixed at the same time and that was barking (which was my neighbors problem with my dog while I was at work) and digging,when properly used it was fantastic and the key is shaving a bit of fur from the neck to get good connection which was my problem when the first day I used it that it didn't seem to work with my dog because I didn't take enough fur off around the neck.worth every penny

My Mastiff could care less about this, 3/6/14

My dog, an English Mastiff, barely flinches at this thing, I tested it on the back of my hand at full strength and it does shock, but it seems weak. He certainly doesn't care enough to stop what hes doing. I probably wouldn't recommend this collar, and this was the best/most expensive model from this brand, not worth the money.

Great product, even better customer service, 3/4/14

This product will change your life! Best $200 I've ever spent on a pet. If you want total control over your dog and feel like you have a invisible leash on them at all times they have on the collar then do yourself a favor and buy your pet one. It has completely changed my dogs behavior. She now understands commands better then you could ever imagine.
I never have to worry about her wondering off. If she does one beep of the collar via remote and she comes running. It is absolutely unbelievable!

Had a problem with the collar so I called customer service and they sent me a new collar no questions asked. They never tried to blame me or anything just said we will replace the collar and they did.
Finally a company that stands by and backs their product.

this product worked great for 3 months and then would only work from 10' or less I do electronics for a living and have made sure it was fully charged and tried every channel combination to make sure it was not the issue. I have contacted customer service and they were very friendly and offered a replacement with a copy of receipt. I will give another unit a try and let you know how well it does.

Great products All equipment. We use are petsafe . have a problem just call.They help. Talk you thru resetting. Replace no questions asked. Fix what I break. Last a longtime I have remotes that I bought 7 yes ago

Loved it...until it stopped working, 2/25/14

We bought this collar and an extra one (with having two dogs) and were beyond excited about it. It worked great, the dogs (Great Dane and English Mastiff) responded to the alerts and they were able to wear them all over.

However, the BIG down side, the collars stopped working a year and a couple months after we got them, shortly after the warranty expired. They were very expensive for the short time they worked. I would easily rate this product a 5 had it lasted, but it didn't so I wouldn't buy them again because approximately 300 dollars for a year-long item is just not worth the money.

incredibly effective, 2/23/14

I have a difficult dog who we tried everything imaginable to get trained and under control -- from professional trainers to classes to even a pet psychologist. Nothing worked until we bought the PetSafe Big Dog Static Collar. Literally two days of stimulation only when needed, and he is a calm, well-behaved dog. I always knew that dogs behaved well when they simply knew "what to do without question." Other methods were not able to create that clarity for him; this did. We are thrilled. For anyone who is worried that these collars are inhumane or not necessary, I can assure you they are simply effective methods of getting more strong-willed dogs to pay attention so they can learn and remember what gets rewarded. I give it 4 instead of 5 stars simply because it required a screwdriver to assemble. Great, effective product = happy dog and happy home.

Not worth the money, 2/23/14

The static did not last long in this collar. Never got wet or anything, but does not work anymore. I really need it but can not afford to replace 2 of them because they are a bit high dollar.

Work for a few weeks, 2/23/14

Bought it and began training at around 6 months of age. Worked for a while, then the dog ( a Lab) got used to it and would hardly respond to it. I used the tester and it said it was still working. I waited for a few months and used it again and the dog only responded the first two times I used it. After that the dog would not even twitch at a level 15, I think that he actually started to enjoy the static shock. tested it on my arm and I didn't like it. put it on the dog and he would sit wagging his tail as if nothing was the matter.

Feel like I wasted my money

I have read the reviews on this item so decided to buy one for my GSD. One word AMAZING!!!!! No lie the first night I placed the collar around her neck used the simulation button and immediately got her attention. Little later she would not listen. I used the static button on low level and she sat down and was great the rest of the evening. Ever since then I haven't used the static button just the stimulating button to get her attention. It's like I have a new and improved dog! Great item.

Product never worked, 2/1/14

I paid about $190 for this remote dog collar over a year ago and have not been able to use it, even once. I tried on several occasions to follow the confusing and less than helpful manual, to no avail. I charged the collar for five hours on each occasion. Each time I take it off the charger And get to the green light, the battery dies and I need to repeat the process. It simply does not work and feels like a scam to pay so much money and have something you cannot use. I just found this website today and realized that I could write a review to let others know about the difficulties with this product and how I have never been able to use it. I agree with the other customer that it does not last....but even worse it does not work!

This collar is not cheap and it failed after 12 months. Battery says fully charged, but it will not produce a current anymore. I would not buy this again.

Had this collar for over two years, and it works good for my labs who tend to run around and explore the country side if I don't watch them. Wish there was a easy way to rebuild collar when it comes time to replace battery.

We have had two of these over the years. They make training so much easier-especially with the signal sound. That's all it takes for your dog to know that you want his attention. Twice we have had to call the company because of a problem with the remote, and twice they sent us a FREE one in the mail promptly. I love this company and product.

Product works well but the product's Life Cycle is short. I have bought 2 and neither have lasted a year. Both time's the receiver just quit working. Collar turns on but receiver does not work at all. So frustrating at almost $200 a pop.

NOT WORKING, 12/24/13

My 8 month old German Shepherd ignores this collar. I have adjusted the tightness on the collar to different settings and she still doesn't pay any attention. I'm not getting any results. Once when I used the collar she went to the down position and just stayed there. She likes to jump up on me and even the highest setting is totally ignored. In a word, not satisfied. Useless.

have had the for just over 2 months and first the collar broke. tried to return it to petsmart but they said it has to go back to manufacture so I have tried for over 2 weeks to get this handled but no response or help from anyone. I think at this point I would not recommend this product or buying anything from petsmart.

LOVE THIS COLLAR, 11/13/13

We have had this collar for YEARS and YEARS. Love it. We got it for our last dog and now our current dog uses it and we are adding a puppy to our house so we will be adding another collar.

The collar stays on well (when properly hooked/latched) and we have never had trouble with it coming off. We rarely have to use the correction button, usually just the beep.

This is the only 'training' collar I have ever used & it is FABULOUS! I bought it initially for my St Bernard that had been through obedience classes & still refused to listen. In 3 years she has got 'the big shock' less than 5x. All I have to do is press the 'beep' & she is all ears. Most of the time just having the collar on does the trick.Then I decided to get the 'little dog' add-on for my Shitzu-having some issues (doesn't seem to shock at all, but can't find my receipt to return/exchange) Well, now we have a new 12-week-old St Bernard..so I need to get another collar for her-but lost my remote-so unfortunately going to have to buy a whole new system. Thought about going with cheaper alternatives, but have been so pleased with this system I will keep my business with them. Also, customer service is SUPERB! I couldn't figure out how to 'add the small dog' collar & felt like an idiot, but the gentleman on the phone was patient & very knowledgeable! Highly recommending this product!

Outstanding Product, 10/26/13

I use this product on my 70 pound boxer, ever since he was a puppy, he had a hard time understanding communication commands. I purchased this collar and within one week, not only was he understanding the commands, I was walking him without a leash. If you are expecting to simply buy this product, put it on your dog, and wahlah all of your problems are solved, you are wrong. You must go through the training steps within the manual.
The product is durable, the rubber is great quality, the buckle holds just fine, and the electronic casing is waterproof. My dog loves to swim and the collar has be submerged probably over 100 times and still is working strong. Also the battery life is amazing, this thing will last a whole week, without having to be charged once, while being constantly on. If you want to take the collar off while indoors and turn it off to save battery, it will last you a month before having to charge it.
I highly recommend this product to anyone, who wants to be able to control their dog, without spending the time and money on long and expensive dog training sessions.

After having this collar f or only a few months the beep button broke and would constantly beep and then eventually caused my dog to be shocked. I didn't know it was broke at first until my dog wouldn't do anything when she went outside then she started yipping and I immediately removed the collar only to be shocked myself. The cheap all plastic design of the remote is horrible and not at all worth the money I paid for it. I will never buy another petsafe product again.

Poor Collar Design, 10/15/13

Do NOT buy this remote trainer! We bought this collar for our 1 year old, 70 lb lab. After two months of having the collar, it somehow came off the dog in which our dog chewed the collar and transmitter to pieces. The collar is made of thin plastic/rubber that is easily torn. After contacting Petsafe, they tell me the warranty doesn't cover pet damage. Well there wouldn't have been any damage by the dog if the collar didn't come off from poor quality design. The collar needs to be made of stronger material with no cheap plastic snap/buckles on it. I am very unhappy with my purchase. If I am going to pay money for a replacement, it will be with another company with better quality products.

Great product, poor collar design, 10/13/13

I agree with other posters. The collar is great at getting our 70 pound German Shepherd puppy (7 months) from chasing other animals. However, taking the collar on and off is awful! She squirms (she is a puppy after all!) and her fur, especially around the neck, is extremely thick. Having a quick-drying nylon snap collar would be a vast improvement over the soft rubber that, all too often, is not tight enough to ensure proper contact. We are constantly having to tighten/re-adjust it after she has worn it for a few minutes.

Well I bought 2 collars in 2011 they were blue and the buttons fell out where you turn them on. I use these collars on my beagles rabbit hunting collars are cheap I had to tape them so they wouldn't fall apart within a month. I went out and bought the new one in 2012 gray one and that one doesn't even work anymore it turns on but won't send any beep or shock through the collars. I don't suggest anyone getting these collars if they have anything to do with hunting. Thanks and I would like a refund cheap is all I can say. Thanks

Proobs and Rubber Collar, 9/27/13

My husband gave me this unit for our great pyrenees puppy. ( That is 8 month old and 70 pound puppy) We needed something for her jumping on us and vistors and chasing our cats, when she is in the house. Love it all but getting the ex-long probes are a problem. No one in our area carries them and with her having a double coat and it being sooo thick. Need the longer probes. Also the rubber collar just grabs her fur and tangles in it. Really would like the design to change to a nylon collar and quick release buckle. Now having said that. Love that it is so easy to train her to it. She spends the day in her pen outside and comes if at night, that is when the collar goes on and the jumping and chasing is down to a miminum. Which is good, these dogs are very, very stubborn. So it is a work in progress.

A great product for a short attention span dog. , 9/18/13

We purchased this collar about a year ago and have been able to manage our dogs behavior. Its does take a great deal of patience on the dog owners part. But once you teach the dog commands with kindness and again patience, a beep of the collar reinforces the negative behavior before it happens. We have been very happy with its results my only complaint would be the longevity of the rechargeable battery.

Poor Collar Design, 8/20/13

I would have rated this trainer higher had it not been for the poor collar design. I love the range and ease of use. The collar straps themselves need to be redesigned and maybe made of something other than soft plastic/rubber that can stretch and tear. It has come off multiple times and my dog has chewed the collar straps to bits 4 times. I have spent too much on replacement collar straps!! Fortunately the collar strap pieces are easy to replace but I shouldn’t have to replace it due to the collar coming off.

After the fourth collar was chewed to pieces after coming off, I had to resort to zip tying to receiver unit to a standard dog collar. I will not buy another set replacement collar straps.

Works great on a problem dog., 8/16/13

My dogs, a Black Lab and a Yellow Lab, excellent escape artists. They even learned to open windows so they could go out and hunt'm up! The Yellow learned the quickest then I went about putting the Fear of God in the Black Lab, I say that because every time he was corrected with a mild shock he looked straight up to the sky. Sometimes they both will get loose and all I have to do is take remote holding it as high as I could reach and press the shock button. I would hear a yelp and within 10 minutes they would back in their yard. Now I just use the "click" part of the trainer when they start to wander so they know where the boundaries are. So problem is solved I have never had a problem with collar at all and I have owned this unit for 5 years. Still works perfect as we a need "refresher course" from time to time.

Works great but bad collar design., 8/14/13

I purchased this collar for my (at the time) 1 year old yellow lab. My dog was happy anytime he was set loose and free from his leash, so happy that any verbal commands had no effect, even after months of training. Frustrated and at wits end I searched the internet for solutions to my dogs misbehavior and upon careful consideration decided to go with this collar and the results were remarkable, Within 1-2 weeks we had a new member of the family! He was happier, we were happier. He could roam, come and go within his Now manageable) boundary, Camping he could be off leash and free yet with a short warning tone or just calling him he knew he was wandering to far. Thanks to pet safe we truly had a new member of the family. So what's wrong? After 2 years of owning this collar it has finally given it's all and during this time I can tell you the design of the collar clasp itself is the major flaw in this otherwise fine product. 2 years ago the complaints I read at the time was the collar slipped off, came unclasped and lost. In the first year of owning this collar it was "lost" no less than once per month, thankfully (luckily) the collar was found each time, I did eventually duct tape the buckle which remains on the collar to this day BUT Pet safe needs to redesign this clasp issue, I was disappointed that returning 2 years later the same clasp design and the same complaints remain. Pet safe, Surely you read and hear the complaints? You have an otherwise perfect product in my eyes, you need to fix this problem. 4 stars, would be 5 with a fix.

Buy another remote trainer. I have had this collar a little less than a year and it has been terrible since the first day. I have always had to use duct tape to secure the collar because it had fallen is off once, luckily I found it. The metal belt-like system on the collar is very poorly designed and slips very easily. Now the collar's zapping is not working at all. One part of the charger broke a while ago as well. The rubber on the collar to protect the charging prongs has also been snapped off. This collar, remote and charger are all very poorly designed. I highly recommend buying a different charger from a different company. Total waste of 170 dollars

not bad - wound up dying after about 9 months of daily use, 8/11/13

in general I was happy with the product. I used it on a fairly continual basis (thanks to the tone warning) for about 9 months until the on/off button broke and the battery stopped taking a charge.

Like another reviewer my dog managed to slip the collar once in some heavy bushes but I found it by using the 'beep' to locate it

I'm not sure I'm thrilled that is wound up with a life of 9 months but it did work well and was as waterproof as advertised while it lived

Poor design, 8/2/13

Very disappointed w/ the design of the collar. Received the collar this past Monday, July 29, 2013. Collar worked very well on our Gordon Setter and worked very well in his training. So today, Friday, August 2, 2013, I put the collar on him and we went training out in the brush. After being out there for approx. 10 -15 minutes I noticed he wasn't responded to the tone sound. After calling the dog back, I realized why! The collar had come undone!! I spent over an hour trying to locate the collar to no avail! There's $170 down the drain for less than a week of use! Not sure why they designed the collar like they did but I wish they would have used the squeeze and snap together design!

Keeps Him Safe, 7/26/13

We adopted a German Short Haired Pointer, which is the poster child of this industry. He can easily jump a six foot fence which has resulted in some bad injuries. In addition he is so slippery that he is almost impossible to grab onto. On the advice of his vet we reluctantly purchased a control collar; It has made all the difference in the world. He is so smart that just wearing the collar keeps him in control .
I do wish that there sere shorter electrodes available for this model as not all large dogs have thick coats.

After adopting a German Short Haired Pointer we found he could easily jump over a six foot fence; his "Interest" in the dogs next door resulted in a number of sever injuries. An additional problem was his bolting out the door and roaming into trouble. A GSP is very difficult to apprehend.
On the advice of his vet we purchased this collar; it has made all the difference in keeping him safe. I have tried the unit to assure myself that it wasn't too violent. We have not had to use it past the "7" setting. Bottom line: it's a great product

Best Purchase EVER, 7/15/13

I have a one and a half year old Chocolate Lab who was completely untrainable. I have had trainers come to the house and I have brought him to stores to be trained with no success. We were even thinking about giving him away. He would knock everyone down by jumping on them and he couldn't even be in the same room with us unless he was in a cage. One day I saw this product in a store and thought I would give it a try. Within 24 hours I have a wonderful dog who listens, doesn't jump and doesn't need to be caged up anymore. I am sooooo glad I bought it.

Best Collar Ever Bought, 7/11/13

I adopted my pup, who was a 9 month old Doberman, from a shelter and oh was she a handful. We named her Lady and she broke the bank with ALL FORMS of corrective/training collars. We successfully completed training classes with commands, but she was AWFUL on the leash. She weighs 63lbs and im not even 2 times her weight. She overpowered me and pulled me down numerous times. I took the last straw when she broke her leash and almost ran into traffic. We have been using the petsafe collar for two months now and even my fiancé grandmother can take her outside now. I was so against a "shock" collar because I was afraid I would hurt my Lady! The guy at the pet store comparred the collar's "shock" to shuffling socks on carpet and touching something metal. I bought the collar, tested it on my leg and I felt a tiny shock/stimulation. It can go up to 15 levels and you definitely don't start it on that! I started off on level 1 and only had to go to 8 or 9 when she would take off. We keep it at 5 now and we can practically just make it beep to get her attention. I HIGHLY reccommend this collar- do not stray away from it if you've tried other products with no success. I wish I would have tried it earlier. Thanks PetSafe! my dog used to kill cats and pull me down!, 6/1/13

About 4 years ago I adopted a golden retriever chow mix from a shelter. She was a very good dog except sometimes she didn't listen. She was terible on a leash. She pulled hard & still does. She chased cats and caught a couple strays. She killed them by the time I caught her. So I couldn't have he off a leash and on 1 she pulled my down and sometimes it hurt. Then I got the remote trainer. Now she never has a leash on and no longer chases cats. I had it about a year now and I never turn it on. I think it might even need charged. But as ling as she knows she has the coller on, I don't have to use it. Thanx petsafe!
