Not for Strong Pullers, 9/2/14
by
This product worked well for about a month, while my dog was still a young puppy. Then he hit his adolescence and started pulling with a lot more force and a lot more determination. The harness has three major downfalls for my dog: (1) it no longer stops his pulling, (2) it chafes his armpits and shoulders, and (3) if he pulls while his head is low to the ground he is able to slip his arms out over the chest piece. I no longer feel safe walking him in the harness, as I fear he will be able to pull both arms out at once and run away. This product would likely work for a dog that pulls less, but I only got one month of use out of it. For reference, my pup is a German Shepherd mix and weighs 45 lbs.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your Easy Walk Harness! We do understand your concern about using this product, and we would be happy to offer assistance in this matter. Please know that all of the issues that you have listed can be due to improper fit, especially if you have a growing pup on your hands. The Shoulder Strap should be adjusted so that the Connector Ring sits above and behind the dog's shoulder. The Belly Strap should be snug and resemble a vertical line so it is not resting in the armpit area. The Chest Strap should be horizontal and resting over your German Shepherd's breastbone. If the Chest Strap rides up or hangs down, a different sized harness may be needed. For more information on how to fit the harness, please use the link below or contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

Instant change in behavior, 8/30/14
by
Our three year old Wheaton Terrier has prided himself on taking us for a walk. Pulling and changing sides were the norm.

The first time we placed the Easy Walk harness on him, all issues evaporated. We have used it for a week and every walk is a pleasure with our dog heeling at our side. We cannot believe the difference this harness has made.

Thank you so much for making this product available. One behavior issue down...ten to go!

Amazing Product!, 8/16/14
by
After trying many options with my Sharpei/Whippet mix who was a very VERY strong puller for a 45lb dog - chain martingale collar (no response), regular harness (encouraged more pulling), halti head harness (he could easily slip out of it due to a shorter nose) - I decided to try the Easy Walk harness.

Holy cow - INSTANT improvement. He attempted to pull and was unable to due to the design of where you connect the leash.

Amazing product! I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a dog who pulls or even a dog who is great on the leash but reacts to other dogs (ie: pulling/jumping). My dog is very easy to handle now - even my mum is confident in walking him.

My only reason for not giving it a 5-star review is that the under belly portion started to rub his underarm fur off. It would be nice to have a softer piece of material (ie: sheep skin) in that area for dogs with thinner fur.

The Easy Walk Harness worked on my dog the very first time we used it!, 7/21/14
by
I rarely give a product review, but I think the Easy Walk Harness and PetSafe certainly deserve positive 5 star reviews. This product worked on my very first use and I thought it was a fluke that my dog didn't pull my arm out of socket!! However due to MY mistake my Sheltie found the harness on top of her kennel and chewed it apart in two places during the night. I was so mad at myself for not being more careful... Anyway I was smart to keep the packaging and receipt and read in the guarantee that the company (PetSmart) would replace this product for a small fee (postage). I called the number provided and "viola" the collar has been replaced!!! Now I really hope the Gentle Spray Anti-bark Collar works as great!!! Our daily walks will be so much more pleasant.

The Easy Walk harness was recommended by Petsmart. It did wonders! Our 5 month old pup used to pull constantly. The first time we put it on, she did not pull at all and stayed by my side during the entire walk. It really seemed like magic! I would highly recommend this harness. She also does not seem to mind it at all. She wags her tail when I take it out and out it on her.

Makes walking fun and relaxing...not frustrating, 7/3/14
by
I was introduced to this product at Doggie Day care and training facility. I will NEVER go back to trying to walk my doggie with a traditional collar again. He is able to gently stay right by me, doesnt pull ( well , okay ...sometimes if he catches a scent) and best of all i can even walk him using the arm which has a torn rotator cuff. My only wish is that it came in perhaps some fun stripes, polka dots, paw prints, or reflective.

Amazing!!, 6/29/14

Warning: shameless, utterly uncompensated product endorsement ahead:
I just had the BEST walk ever with my teenage canine (8 month old Great Dane) with his new Easy Walk Harness ....the most humane and effective piece of control equipment I've ever seen or used. I cannot imagine how I could hurt him with this - there are no prongs, no choking mechanism, nothing whatsoever that inflicts any painful correction....and he loves it! Dove right back into it even in the middle of a field where he had been running free.

The snap ring is in the front which was totally weird to me but it works - zero pulling, zero challenge for control, he is instantly responsive to the slightest pressure (all I really have to do is tighten my grip on the leash - not pull!)

I am completely amazed! Our walks had become unpleasant nearly constant battles for control with me pulling on his neck to the point of ridiculousness (he's way stronger than I am, even if it's only a bush he wants to check out!) and hurting him (or my shoulders!) is the last thing I want to do! It goes on without interfering with his collar (which he wears 24/7) and is super easy on and off. I wouldn't expect to use this as a substitute for a collar or to take the place of good training (nor do I think it's meant to be!) but as effective and humane reinforcement, it is the best product I've ever used.

He is a happy, well-exercised, passed out puppy right now and I am a happy, relaxed puppy-mommy. Many thanks to [Customer Representative] at ACME Dog Center in WA for recommending the harness and reassuring me that as weird as it seems, it works.
It does!

GREAT Product, 6/18/14
by
We have two Portuguese Podengo puppies; they are only about 30 pounds each but very high energy and they were CONSTANTLY pulling with the conventional neck collars we were using. We took them to obedience school and the trainers recommended the E-Z Walk harness. We have only had the harnesses for about two days now, but the difference is night and day, from a constant pulling by the more energetic of the two pups to almost zero. Walks are now enjoyable as opposed to what used to be a constant tug of war. We would highly recommend these to anyone. The only minor negative is it takes a bit of work to get them fitted properly, but the supplied instructions are very clear about how to do so.

Just OK, can't find anything better., 6/12/14
by
When I first put the harness on I adjusted it and it fit well. She wears it full time because she wears a PetSafe brand wireless dog fence collar full-time and we can't put her tags on that collar. So after just a few hours around the house it started coming loose and her tags start jingling a lot so I can hear that it just gets looser and looser. The harness doesn't cause any problems per say, and she walks well on a leash with it, it's just a little annoying to all of us. The part that loosens is across the chest, so when she walks the fabric hits the top of her legs and doesn't look presentable. when she lays down sometimes the harness will come loose from her underarms and once in a while her leg will get stuck in or out of the harness. But she's funny and she works it out alright. She's very smart.
On the fabric next to the adjustment pieces there needs to be a rubber piece to prevent the adjusters from moving on their own. I would get her a different harness but this is the best one I've found at Petsmart or Petco, we've tried several.

Thank You, SMontgomery

PETSAFE RESPONSE: Thank you for your time and feedback on your experience with the Easy Walk Harness. We are sorry to hear that you have been struggling with the fit on your harness, and can understand your concern. Please know that if the harness is too low then consistent moving/walking would cause just enough tension on the adjustment points to gradually slide them over and loosen.
For your concern with dog tags, we would also recommend a Sure Fit Harness. This harness is designed to put the tags behind the dogs shoulder blades and it will eliminate the risk of the tags on the chest interfering with the signal from the wireless signal that is used for the receiver collar. No good, 6/8/14
by
I adopted a dog from the shelter who came with the harness and since it was so highly recommended figured I'd get another there for my lab. It doesn't work. My lab has always been a strong puller. It never worked on her at all. I also could not get a good fit. It was a large and it had been picked out by the shelter for her while she was present, and then re fitted by petsmart and it just won't fit right at all. When I did use it it left marks on her armpits. I would not recommend it.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear of the trouble you've encountered with the Easy Walk Harness! Please know that we are happy to provide troubleshooting assistance available through our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677. For proper fitting instructions, our fitting guide is available at the link below. Unfortunately, if the harness is too loose under your lab's arms, it can create irritation and prevent the product from being effective.

Awesome product, 6/7/14
by
This is an absolutely amazing harness that has completely changed how my small terrier-mix walks on a leash. Prior to buying this leash, he would NEVER walk on a loose leash and would very often lunge and run while wearing any other harness or collar. Since buying this leash, he is like a completely different dog. He's been using it for a little over a week, so there is a change that he will develop the sores mentioned in other reviews. That said, it definitely does what it claims to do and is worth trying.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are happy to hear of your success with the Easy Walk Harness, and we do appreciate you sharing your story with us! Please know that your terrier-mix should not develop sores at all, but if he does, it is usually due to improper fitting or use. For more assistance, we recommend to view our fitting instructions available at the link below, or contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

Do not buy if you have a strong dog, 5/6/14
by
I was recommended the easy walk harness by a fellow pitbull owner. My dog (70 pounds) was on his harness out back doing his business. He saw a rabbit and darted for it. He straightened his leash with such force that he upended himself and the stitching that holds the D ring broke. He took off into the woods and I had to chase and catch him.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear about the problem you've encountered with your Easy Walk Harness. We can understand how concerning it must be to have a damaged product. Please know that the Easy Walk Harness is designed to be a training device to help deter your pet from pulling, and should only be used when walking your pet on a leash.

This product is backed by a 1 year limited warranty, and we will be attempting to contact you to provide replacement assistance for your harness. For more information, please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

Great aid to loose leash walking, 4/30/14
by
I have a 6 month goldendoodle who pulls 50-60% of the time. I got the harness to try and instantly noticed a difference in her behaviour. Don't know if it's the front attachment or what. She is even more calm around passerbys on the walk, etc. After about two weeks of use, she is almost perfectly walking loose leash. I haven't noticed any worn spots on her, I don't know if it's because we have it fit snugly, or because she has a thick coat. But it was a very quick fix to a problem I wanted to solve and we'll keep working with it!

Fits poorly, works pretty well, 4/23/14

My 2 rescue Labs are huge pullers. The Easy Walk works pretty well. They still pull but are controllable. They do better if I clip both the harness and collar into their leash. But I can't get a good fit. They're big for labs, 90 and 98 pounds and must have a very deep chest. The XL is too big around, but the large's chest strap is too tight and pulls the whole harness too far forward, making it difficult for them to walk and causing chafing.

Frayed through after two weeks of use; rubbed sore spots on dog's armpits, 4/9/14
by
Bought this for our 9-month-old black lab (currently 60lbs). Our first Easy Walk Harness frayed after just one week of use. Thinking we had fitted it wrong, we took it back to the pet store who switched it out and fitted a new one for us. Lo and behold, the second one frayed as well - all the way through by the end of the second week (fraying occurred at the front, in the area where the clip ring is), at which point I also noticed sore spots on our dog's armpit/shoulder areas. It's such a shame because it did stop the pulling - I really wish there was a better version that would last and not rub.

Amazing product; horrible on dogs armpits. , 4/6/14
by
Even though I had to discontinue(much to my disappointment) use, I still gave it a four star rating. I'd give it a perfect score if it were given a minor redesign.
I purchased this product straight from the shelter where I adopted my two-year-old pitbull. It came highly recommended by shelter staff and a few visitors/pet owners that were present and had been using it as well. Knowing the tugging problem associated with the breed, and being extremely adamant against head collars, I bought it. Worked great, he never tugged.
He began balding and developing sores in his armpit. I came to realize that after time, the sores were beginning to be the biggest reason for the lack of tugging, not the harness itself.
Quickly, he began resisting the offer to go for a walk, which sent up a huge red flag.
If there is a way for the company to alter the fit or roughness in certain areas, I would without a doubt continue use of this, or a modified product. Otherwise, not a chance.

I have had this harness for 3 days and it's like I have a whole new dog that has no idea how to pull. The harness works right away, the first day I took my dogs for a walk with this harness I was ecstatic. Finally, I can enjoy walking my dogs without getting blisters on my hand from the leash or getting my arm pulled out of my socket. I would highly recommend this product.

no good fit although the sizing table said it would, 3/30/14
by
My dog's size is 27 inch, so the "large" harness would fit according to the fitting table. I put it on but the shoulder strap was already at the smallest when the rings still didn't come above his shoulders. I was following the instructions carefully.
Result: the front strap hindered the dog's movement which made it a difficult and frustrating walk for him. Reading the other reviews about injuries in the arm pits I will return the product and will not buy the medium size.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear that the design of the Easy Walk® Harness has failed to meet your expectations. As pet owners ourselves, we can understand your frustration and concern with this harness. Please know that we do have a Medium/Large size available for those pets who seem to be in-between sizes. Retracting my previous five star review. Safety issue! Extremely disappointed., 3/17/14
by
I previously wrote about how in awe I was with this product as it corrected my Shar Pei's pulling problem immediately. I quickly realized this convenience came at a nasty price. After becoming curious about why there were so many bad ratings on what appeared to be a wonder product, I took the advice of one reviewer and checked under my dogs arm pits which were quickly becoming raw and irritated after just two quick short walks. Everything was adjusted correctly so it was due to no fault of mine. Had I continued use, the chafing surely would have rubbed the skin so raw it would have broken skin. Save yourself the possible vet bill and your money. I'm returning this tomorrow. Good idea in theory but a very poor design. Extremely disappointing.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We appreciate your feedback and do apologize about the experience you've had with your Easy Walk Harness. We do understand your frustration about irritation on your dog's skin and know that it can be concerning. Please know that chaffing can happen if the harness is not fitted properly. You may either have a harness that is too small for your dog or may have been the right size but not fit snug enough. Irritation can also occur if the back and belly straps are not tight enough. These straps need to be so snug that you can just barely fit two fingers between the dog’s fur and the nylon. It’s too loose if the straps rotate freely when you pull on them, this causes the straps to rub and can lead to discomfort. If these straps are not tight enough, the harness will easily fall forward when the dog is pulling. We suggest that these straps are tight because this is the foundation for the harness that keeps everything in place. Similar to running shoes, if they are too loose, they can rub and cause chaffing. We do have Fitting Instructions available to download at the link below. If you do need assistance, or have any further questions, please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

I was skeptical, but this thing is a miracle!, 3/17/14

A little background: I'm 104 pounds soaking wet and stand at 5 ft so I'm a teeny girl. I got my shar-pei, Otto, about six months ago and he has been incredibly easy to train but getting him to walk behind or beside us without lunging or pulling ahead was impossible. I did not know what to do, as I didn't feel comfortable in public with a dog I couldn't fully control, especially given my size. He could have been hurt getting away, or ran after something/someone. At my wits end, I considered getting a prong collar which I was very against but I didn't know what else was going to get him to walk with me safely. Fast forward to us buying this after a strong recommendation by a pet store employee and putting it on him. It's a little pricey, but now I know why. He tried to pull at first, but this only tripped him up (I'll admit, I laughed.) It was cute seeing his bewilderment. The redirection properties of this collar really do work. My dog went from being embarrassing in public to walking like a show dog. Give your poor shoulder a rest and buy this. It's worth the small investment. It's also a lot safer for your dog as he won't be trying to pull out of collars or harnesses. Adjustment and directions are fairly easy and come with a manual. This provided a perfect resolution for my dog and I.

I bought this product because my 95lb lab and my 35lb pit always pull. As promised this harness works great. The dogs instantly stopped pulling. I put the harnesses on following the directions. After a 30 minute walk with this harness both dogs developed pretty severe lacerations/abrasions to the underarms. If this product had some sort of padding to prevent this it would be a great product for any K9 owner.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are happy to hear that this harness worked well for your Lab and your Pit bull! We are sorry to hear that they experienced irritation from this product. Please know that this type of discomfort can occur when the product is not fitted properly. We often liken it to a poorly fitted shoe or sandal. I have an 8 month old Rottweiler puppy who loves going for walks, but also loves to pull. I'm a 6 foot tall female steelworker, but he is a strong pup! I bought this harness yesterday and put it on him right away. He is usually very sensitive about wearing something new or constrictive, and this didn't seem to bother him at all. When I took him out for his walk, he pulled for a minute or two before he realized that he was the one falling down. From that point on, he walked so gentle, I had to stop and wait for him to catch up! I am never going to walk another dog without one!

I have a 52 lb Sharpei (1 year old). He loves to walk but pulls excessively. It got to the point where it wasn't fun to walk him. I was ready to stop the walks but decided to go to the pet store and see if they could recommend something. I purchased the Easy Walk Harness. I was very anxious to try the harness although I was skeptical it would work. Much to my surprise, the next morning when I put it on my dog he calmly started to walk down the driveway (he would normally get so excited and pull so hard my arm would hurt). I could not believe the difference. We proceeded to walk and for the most part he stayed along beside me and walked with me instead of pulling me along. It was wonderful. I really am impressed with this product and highly recommend it for anyone who loves to walk their dog.

I own a 14month old bullmastiff. I always knew he would get big and I started socializing, going to training classes and walking him early. The only thing he loves more than food and attention is walking. He gets so excited about it he will start shaking if he hears the word. For the most part he's easy to walk. But there are moments when he sees something as simple as a butterfly or leaf and lunge after them. I'm not a weakling or anything, but I am only 5'1" and when caught off guard can be thrown off balance. What would happen if he got interested with a female in heat?!? Or worse someone's very small child?!? I love my dog and I've done best to train him, but I'm not an idiot. He's pretty strong. So I neglected walking him for a while :( he missed it terribly. I came across this harness and thought, " that tiny thing?!? How is that going to work?" IT DOES!!!! IT'S LIKE MAGIC! I can even hold his leash with one hand. And when he lunges after that leaf he's the only one off balance. :)

Couldn't get it to adjust correctly, 12/9/13

At first we thought this was a great idea. But we couldn't adjust it to fit our dog properly. The upper strap could not be adjusted tight enough to fit our dog. The size was correct, but it just never fit her right. It was too tight behind her elbows, but not tight enough to be effective. We tried it on a walk anyway, just to see how she did. The front ring got all pulled around to the side and didn't work correctly.

Works well but be careful with sizing, 11/22/13
by
I purchased two of these harness per recommendation by a dog trainer. I will admit they do work well .... when they work. However, I think the sizing is a bit off. I measured both of my dogs and each of them seemed to need a med/large size according to their measurements. For one of my dogs, the front droops down some. Luckily, she is not much of a "puller" so we manage. However, my other dog, who is slightly larger and very much a "puller", it seems to fit ok. The front could stand to be a little tighter but it fits perfect at other points. His front leg slips out of the harness very often and I fear it will do so at the wrong time wrong place so it's not much use for him. I think a medium may be too small. I bought these from an online retailer so I think returning them at this point would be too much of a hassle. I do recommend measuring your dog and getting one size smaller than it says if it is close to the smaller size.

This worked great to rein in my lab's pulling on normal walks but I wouldn't advise using this for hiking. I was careful to keep this harness loose but as soon as it got muddy it cut the armpits of my dog really up bad on an extended hike.

Magic!, 10/2/13
by
Our 19-month-old Yorkie was a holy terror to walk. He stalled and balked and strained the leash to head back home when we started out, and once into the daily walk he would pull and tug at the leash and head in all directions. That was in a normal harness. He went berserk in a Gentle Leader, turning into a whirling dervish trying to get it off. He chewed through it in three days. Finally, today we bought an Easy Walk Harness, and it was magic. He was like a new dog -- walking easily without pulling or straining at the leash. My husband and I looked at each other in astonishment and said over and over: "Amazing!"

Worked for half of my dogs!, 9/28/13

It stopped pulling instantly in my hound mix, no pulling even if I didn't have the leash attached to it! but my pit bull mix seems not phased by it in the slightest (as he is by most things). For him it was not only ineffective but he managed to rip it in half from pulling on it.

Worked Instantly !, 9/24/13

Eureka! Finally found something that works for both dogs; mixed terrier and long haired dachshund beagle mix. These two are always in competition with each other, who can pull harder and who is in the lead. Mostly challenging when another dog approaches. Finally both Dogs walk civilly on either side of me without even attempting to pull. When another dog approaches they would bark, but with a little tug they stop.

Wish they were more durable, 9/9/13

This collar has been great with my Dane who doesn't pull excessively but can if she wants to. It gives control while still being comfortable for her to wear. The only issue I have had is the sliding metal adjustment piece on the chest strap has broken on two collars. Both times they have broken at the weld point and the collar is un-usable when this happens so I have to purchase a new one. It would be great to see some sort of design or manufacturing improvement which would correct this problem. It has happened to me twice so I'm sure it has happened for other people as well.

Different Dogs, 9/4/13
by
I have two boxers who pulled like crazy when on walks. Coughing and hacking because of the pulling. Because of the muscles on a boxer and the pulling I always walked one dog at a time to be sure I could keep control. Someone recommend this harness, I was extremely skeptical, I gave it a try. (they emphasized fitting it correctly was part of the success or failure) and I am happy to say I now walk both my boxers at once. NO Pulling, complete control, healing for entire walk, slack lead the whole time, tested (with back up in case I needed help) with distractions of every kind I could think of. Still no pulling and complete control. LOVE THIS! From only taking one at a time(if I was walking alone) to now both boxers go with me--FREEDOM. I highly recommend, I never thought it would work but it did!

Excellent harness but must be sized and used correctly, 9/3/13
by
I provide these harnesses to my 25 dog walkers. They use them everyday with a variety of dogs. I have recommended them to clients as well. If sized properly and used, as advised in the manual, you will see a dramatic change in your experience and control when walking your dog. We walk 100 dogs a day and they are in various states of training. They have worked, to help keep the walkers and dogs safe, every single time.

Good but has left rope burn, 9/2/13
by
We loved the easy walk harness at first, our 1 year old staffy seemed like a totally different dog. On other leashes, he is totally unwalkable. Our dog still pulls when he sees other dogs, but so much more manageable. After a couple of weeks of use we have noticed that the harness has been wearing away at our dogs armpit, to the point it is bleeding. Fur missing etc. We just didn't notice, till recently. Pretty disappointed.

sizing guide NOT a guide, 8/24/13
by
I believe this product would work, but the sizing guide is ridiculous & I am getting fed up. I will be on my 2nd exchange of this harness this week. According to the "guide" my dog needed a small/medium but with no help to go by I guess I am just going to keep exchanging until I get it right. I want this harness but it's going to take a while before I can use it. I would recommend finding the harness in the store & trying on not ordering online. This guide is a joke. I'm sure I would otherwise give this product a 5/5 but can't seem to be able to use it yet.

Poor quality - didn't last a month, 8/15/13
by
I have a 10 month old GSD. I got her one month ago, and because she pulls when being walked, it was recommended to me to get this harness. I will say that it worked fairly well, but I haven't even had it an entire month and the plastic clip to fasten it is broken. I don't have the receipt so I can't take it back so I am back to a pulling dog and a very poor quality dog harness.

Only harness that has actually worked for my pit bull/Boxer mix!, 8/1/13
by
Out of everything I've tried - a martingale collar, standard harness, Gentle Leader, etc. - this is the only product that has actually worked for my 50-lb. pit bull/Boxer mix. Instead of pulling me along behind her, she now walks close to my side and will come to a stop whenever I put any tension on the leash. I used to dread taking her out during/after a rain for fear of her dragging me face first through the mud, but the first time I used this harness I was able to walk through the wet grass wearing flip flops without even sliding once. Her girth is 28" and the Medium/Large size fits her perfectly; those having trouble with the fit might want to double check the user guide to make sure you're adjusting the straps in the proper order.

Great....until it slipped off, 7/12/13
by
We bought the large for our small Golden. The belly was extended and almost didn't fit. The shoulders was still too bug when at it's smallest. The front/chest was gaping. But we walked anyway. So it was fine-no pulling!!! I'm like, 'Great!!' until she pulls it off. Twice. In one walk. Then, we attached the collar with it along with making it a bit smaller. IT STILL SLIPPED OFF!!!! We are returning and getting a M/L from Petsafe to try. Hopefully this works.

Incomplete size guide, 7/2/13
by
The size chart should really include chest size and girth. My puppy's girth is 24 inches so I bought a medium harness hoping she could grow into it for a few months. While the shoulder and belly straps have plenty of room for growth, her chest strap is as large as it goes and is still too small.
