After a year and two months of usage, this fountain started to have green mold in the corners and crevices in the clear plastic container. What is the coincidence that this started to happen right after the warranty ended? I really liked the detachable debris filter and it never once overflowed. However, it's tedious to clean and nearly impossible to get rid of all the mold with the brushes they recommend. Most of the mold accumulated at the base of the container and have caused cleaning so difficult that I decided it was better to change the fountain altogether. I'm disappointed in this product as my cats did enjoy using it but the way it was created makes it too difficult to clean and dangerous for the cats to drink out of again.

PETSAFE RESPONSE

Thank you for sharing your experience, Lee! I am sorry to hear of the difficulty that you have experienced with the Drinkwell Platinum® Fountain Reservoir and can understand how this would be concerning. What you are seeing is likely algae build-up rather than mold. Algae naturally forms in water over time, especially when it is kept in direct sunlight. If you notice it beginning to build up, taking it out of direct sunlight should slow the algae growing process substantially. Please also try giving the reservoir a good soak in a 50/50 mix of hot water and vinegar. If you continue to have difficulty, please give us a call at 1-800-732-2677 for troubleshooting and assistance.

Have owned this fountain for about 8 months. Worked well until recently. Started having a problem where the water would start draining out of the reservoir by itself, emptying the reservoir and overflowing out of the Drinkwell Platinum Fountain onto the floor at any time of the day or night. It may be due to the O-ring (talked about in another review) falling out somewhere (don't know where). I don't know how to get one , what it looks like, and where it was located on the reservoir cap. If I did, maybe I could try to make something similar that might work, maybe.

PETSAFE RESPONSE

Thank you for sharing your concerns, Jon. We can understand how it would be frustrating to have a leaky fountain, but we are here to help! The reservoir cap does not come with an O-ring, if the fountain is overflowing it is likely due to a hairline crack in the reservoir which interrupts the regulation of the water and causes water to flow freely. Please know that this fountain does carry a 1 year warranty! For further assistance, please give us a call at 1-866-738-4379.

I filled the Reservoir less then half way full and put it in the freezer overnight with plenty of room for the ice expansion but instead of the Ice expanding in the free space, it expanded outward braking the plastic..

I have been using this product for my two fussy felines and it continues to be a big hit! They love to drink from the spout rather than the bowl, and, of course, it's a great place to play. Loved mine so much I bought the large version for a friend's dog. It was just as big a hit with him.

Anytime I remove the reservoir the plastic lit falls off. Also the o-ring for the reservoir cap fell out and is non replaceable by the manufacture. I called and they were kind enough to send me a new reservoir at no cost since I have only owned the unit for a week. Could I be the only one to need a replacement o-ring? I still have the original Drinkwell which is about 15 years old. It's a little noisy but still keeps working. I have to kick it once in a while to get it started though.
