Too Noisy, 4/11/14
by
I like the design of this fountain, but can't deal with how noisy it is. At first, I thought maybe I had purchased one that was defective, but after reading the other reviews I see that it's an ongoing problem. Very disappointed.

Too much noise when not even low on water, 3/1/14
by
My pets love having a two tier fountain however it develops an annoying noise after my pet takes one or two drinks. I have used drinkwell for years and done troubleshooting and purchased replacement pumps. That is not the problem with this model! If the water level goes down just a little bit there is a pfft, pfft, pfft noise that occurs. It appears to be a problem with the way the filter fits. I have trimmed filters, placed them backwards and forwards, elevated them a little and anything else I could think of. The only way I have found to get rid of this noise is to use the fountain without a filter or add water several times a day to keep it completely full. That kind of defeats the purpose of the fountain in my opinion. I don't use a filter anymore but I have to clean it even more often so the motor doesn't get all gummed up with particulate that accumulates in a pet water bowl. I would give this 5 stars if it didn't have this problem. Please don't put that standard troubleshooting advise up regarding this complaint. The motor, pump is not the problem!

Noise, Noise, Noise, 12/1/13

This thing makes a lot of annoying noise. I have tried everything. Replace filters once a week, premium filters, cleaning pump, nothing works. The overall design is great, the cats love it, I just can't take the noise. Buy something else.

PETSAFE RESPONSE:

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue with your Drinkwell Multi-Tier Fountain. While it is normal for the motor to be slightly audible, like a low hum, it shouldn't be very noticeable or loud. To be sure that you viewed all possible troubleshooting procedures, I have listed them below.

Please make sure the fountain is full before plugging the fountain into an outlet.

Un-plug and re-plug in the fountain. This will change the direction the impeller is spinning, which can sometimes fix the problem.

After a good cleaning of the pump (make sure all hair/debris is removed from the pump cavity), take a small cotton swab and place a little bit of olive oil or vegetable oil on the tip (be sure to use a product that is edible and pet friendly). Lubricate the small metal pin inside of the motor with the oil. This allows the impeller to spin more smoothly.

If you are still experiencing an issue after trying these suggestions, please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677 so that we may provide a possible solution.

Terribly noisy, 11/19/13
by
The cats like it, and it's better designed for easy cleaning than older models - but the pump makes a horrible noise.

It resonates against the flimsy plastic body and makes a continuous loud buzzing. No amount of cleaning, lubricating, moving the pump or adding sound insulation underneath it makes any difference.

Good design, pump is terrible., 10/15/13
by
I had two of the original Drinkwells for quite a few years. However, when the pump went on the first one I had (after probably 8 years), I decided to replace it with this multi-tier fountain (small size for cats). After only a few days the pump started to make a very annoying noise. I have cleaned the whole thing twice, but the pump noise gets worse and worse. I am going to be forced to toss the whole thing because of the racket the pump makes. It was a big waste of $60 for me. I will go back to the original design--hopefully they have not cut back on pump quality for that one!

Aggravating , 10/12/13

We bought a Drinkwell in hopes that it would work better than the Petmate we had. At first we did have issues with the noise, but that was fixed quickly after realizing we just needed to change the filters more often. The problem we have now is worse. The entire fountain gets a gross thick slime on it several times a week! The filters are changed once, sometimes twice a week...which is costly since they aren't exactly super cheap. I thoroughly clean this fountain. We are very clean people, and I'm disappointed in this product. Sorry Drinkwell..I hate to leave a bad review, but this fountain doesn't pull it's weight.

Don't waste your money, 10/6/13

The picture on this product is VERY deceptive, the water DOES NOT FLOW. I have the Drinkwell® Platinum Fountain which is wonderful, but wanted a different one, big mistake to waste $70.00 at my local pet store.

Pump issues , 8/29/13
by
I first tried another drinkwell product and even though it worked well, within two days the pump vibration was very bad. I replaced it with this version... great product and the cats love it but again, the pump now is making a surging noise that is very annoying. I have cleaned it twice in as many days and it stops for about an hour and then the pulsing noise starts again. It would be nice to find a truly silent water fountain.
