We bought 2 replacement pumps earlier this year (2017), and it's not quite August and both have quit. (One is warped, one is not).
We have had this fountain for about 3-4 years without problems until the original pump went out, which is why we ordered two, so we could have one on back-up.
I'm buying 2 more in hopes it was just a bad batch or something- but I'm not seeing anything about warranties that would be helpful.
And yes- we made sure there wasn't a leak, or water getting to the exterior of pump, and the fountain is always running water through it- so it's not a dry run issue.
Thanks for taking the time to review the Drinkwell® Big Dog Fountain Pump! This is not common by any means and it most certainly sounds as though they have been properly maintained. We will reach out to you privately for further support as we would like to have these pumps sent in for testing!
I have two of these fountains and love them.......... except after about a year the pump starts to leak. I've tried all kinds of "suggestions" with the 0 ring, but water keeps leaking from the pump. Ok, I'm going to buy another pump.... but it would be so fantastic if you could make these last longer

Had the big dog original fountain. my Shepard and my cat all love the fountain. Love the extra container for the larger volumn. Problem in the pump died it is long out of warranty. How do I get a replacement so we can get back to using it? You know, if your asking people to keep taking this part in and out, maybe make it of a stronger material? Thank you for an otherwise great product.
Thanks for your review, Carol. We're glad to hear that your cat and dog love their fountain so much! We're also glad to hear that your Big Dog Fountain lasted you so long, but hate to hear that it has stopped working. We may be able to resolve this by performing a few steps. After doing the full cleaning (i.e. scrubbing out the impeller cavity and other nooks using a brush and soapy water), it can help to soak the pump pieces in a solution of white vinegar and water for roughly 15 minutes. Scrubbing it with a paste made of lemon juice and baking soda can also help to get rid of tough deposits. After rinsing all the pieces thoroughly and then reinstalling the impeller, it can help to put a small drop of edible oil around the rim to help lubricate it.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, then this pump is the correct one for the Big Dog Fountain. This should get your fountain up and running again! Please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677, Carol.
