I have 2 Pagoda pet fountains. These filters work great the first day, second day the flow is halved, third day the flow is a silent trickle. My fountain water is clean of any debris or hair & the filter itself is clean also. I have done everything possible to make these filter work, shake, rinse, etc. I do have hard water but most people do, how many people can say they have a softner on their water line? I have concluded the filber material on both ends are too thick & blocks the water flow &/or the carbon must get compacted over 3 days to eventually block flow. Both fountains work great when I remove the carbon filters. This is obviously a design flaw in the filters themselves. This is unfortunate since the carbon filter was one of the reasons I bought these fountains for my dogs & cat. I am postive other people have had the same problem. These filters need to be redesigned, replace the fiber ends to a fine mesh & figure out how to keep the carbon pebbles inside loose.

I have to cancel my monthly subscription of these filters since they make both fountains usless in 3 days of installing. I have gone through 3 nearly new flters & still have a new box left!

PETSAFE RESPONSE

Hello Linda! We are terribly sorry to hear about your experience with your Drinkwell Pagoda filters! Sometimes, these little cell filters get a bit compacted and need to be loosened up. Soak them in a cup of water for about 10-15 minutes and then knock them against the counter to break up any large bits of charcoal. Please make sure that the pump is being disassembled and cleaned every one to two weeks for proper functionality.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance by calling 1-866-738-4379.

I recently bought another unit, so now I have 2 units for the 5 cats we have. We ended up putting one on our sink in the bathroom, since some of the cats were determined to get fresh water from the tap when we were brushing our teeth.
One of the concerns I see stated from people, is how long the carbon filters last. I run my unit without the filter. The water flows much better and the foam filter around pump seems to do just fine, in catching all the debrie. I also only use bottled water or water from my sink reverse osmosis system, so I don't have to worry about carbon filtering the tap water, because I don't use tap water.

I have the pagoda fountain. The filter says that it should last about two weeks. Not even close. I have to change it about once a week. I have one cat and I clean the bowl every week. Shouldn't the filter last longer than a week? If I shake it hard enough the charcoal clumps separate and the water runs better. Very frustrating and expensive to keep buying the filters.

PETSAFE RESPONSE:

We're sorry to hear about the issues you're running into with your fountain, Kathy! While we recommend that the filters be changed about once every two weeks for best results, some factors may affect this lifespan such as hard water or frequency of use. Please keep in mind that the filters are entirely optional and the fountain will operate just fine without them. If you are noticing that they are reducing your water flow, be sure to rinse them thoroughly under a faucet and give them a good shake before initially installing them. This should get rid of any loose bits of charcoal (these are completely harmless, even if ingested) and spread the filter contents out enough to allow water to flow through it properly. If you try this and are still getting low flow, be sure that you are fully disassembling the fountain pump itself for cleaning.

If you continue to experience these issues with the filters, please give us a call at the number 1-866-738-4379 and we would be more than happy to assist you.

Love this product, but my local supplier ~ [ pet product retailer](Delray Beach, FL) ~ said that it was no longer produced. I am so glad that I found it! I intend to purchase more Pagoda Fountains so I am very happy to see that Inam able to purchase the filters I need.

The filters do clog quickly, as other reviewers point out. However, I am getting months of life out of each filter by backwashing the filter with a stream of hot water. Overall, I think this is a good waterer for our cats.

One of my cats was diagnosed with urinary stones. After he was cared for at my local animal hospital I was advised to have him drink as much water as I could. Since he liked drinking water from a tap, I immediately thought of the Drinkwell fountain. Well, I bought the Pagoda shape fountain and it works like a charm! He drinks all his water from that fountain and his vet says he is much healthier now. Coupled with special food, his water intake is excellent.

Overall I love the fountain and so does my little Kitty girl but I have to say the filters do not last that long due to Kitty saliva. My advice and what I find has helped them last a little longer...when the water starts to flow slower than usual take the filter out and rinse and run it under warm water to remove the saliva from the filter. You will feel the slime on it once you take the filter out. It rinses off quickly when you rub your fingers over the felt part (top and bottom of filter) under the water. When you put the filter back in it runs better. Just a way to extend the life of the filter and save you some money. Doing it this way...4 filters last me 3 or so months.

Both my dog and cat love the Avalon ceramic fountain. I have had it for almost a year and am now on my 2nd pump. I clean it at least once a week which is not a big deal, as it is not a difficult process to take it apart and re-assemble. I also use filtered frig water in the bowl when I refill - as tap water contains too many chemicals which are dangerous to our pets and their kidneys can not filter. It is worth my pet's health to spend the 10 minutes it takes to keep the bowl, fountain and pump clean. The filters are hard to find locally, not even in the store ( Petsmart ) in which i bought my fountain .. which is disappointing - but I have ordered on -line from Petsafe and have found that their prices are reasonable and the customer service and support are EXCELLENT. If you are looking to better your pets health, I highly recommend the Avalon fountain from Petsafe.

I have 3 cat's. They are always drinking from their Avalon fountain. I have to fill it up twice a day. My cat's are spoiled rotten and lazy. 2 of my cat's are too heavy so they lay on their stomach's to drink. All of my cat's will stop drinking from the fountain if the water reaches below 2 inches from the top, or so it seem's. I do have to agree with one of the other reviewer's, the water pressure from the top is much slower than when I first bought it. Also, for me, the filter's are hard to find locally. Having said that, I would still buy another one if something happened to the one I have now. Over all a nice product for my cat's. >^..^<

We have four cats and have had our Avalon fountain for more than a year now, and it is great! I usually change the charcoal filter every two weeks, but occasionally it has gone longer and been fine. The only time it gets gummed up is when my nephews put cat food in the fountain, and even then it continues working.

I have to say that the pagoda watering station is great for my 3 dogs but I have only had the pagoda for 3 weeks and the filter is already clogged. I did clean the bowl and rinsed out the filter but I really don't think having to replace the filter so soon is worth it. I will keep using it until I find a better watering station and then will put it out for a yard sale.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear that the design of the Drinkwell Pagoda filter did not meet your expectations. Please know that these filters are designed to be changed every 2-4 weeks, depending on how many pets use the fountain. If you have more pets or notice more debris, a slimy feel, or decreased water flow in your fountain, it is recommended to clean it more often. Pre-filters can usually be changed less frequently. Filters are not required for this fountain to work, but it does improve the overall cleanliness. While we enjoy our pagoda fountain, the filter life is a problem. filters impair the function of the fountain after just a few days. After a week there is almost no water flow. For the record, we use only softened and filtered (by reverse osmosis) water in our fountain, so there really is little or no debris. The cats are short haired and do not shed excessively. Flushing the filter does not really solve the problem.

At $10 for 4 filters each month or so this quickly becomes an expensive enterprise. Don't know that it's worth it.
