The other reviews on here make my brain itch. These collars are not made to leave on your dogs 24/7. They are designed for keeping your dog from being a nuisance barker for no more than 12 hours out of a 24 hour day. You are supposed to take the collar off the dog so that the prongs do not literally wear a hole through the skin of your dogs throat. Its not the collars or the manufacturers fault if this happens as it plainly states on the directions how to use the collar and how long it can safely be worn without causing skin trauma. The collars were never designed to be left on permanently, they require to much pressure on the two points of contact for that. They are designed to push past hair and make full contact to the skin for a proper static discharge. If not the static will discharge through out the dogs coat and not be effective. The clip/clasp/buckle is a safety break away clip so your dog does not strangle its self and spend its last moments being zapped for barking in fear or pain while being hung up on something. Regular checks are also supposed to be made to make sure the collar is not irritating the dogs skin, Regular maintenance consists of making sure the prongs are on securely, and that the battery door is not loose. These are all supposed to be a part of your daily routine for the care and well being of your dog while using this product.

We have three dogs two medum and one large dogs. They play together. I purchased the wireless system 6 years ago and I never had to replace the collars. They held up really well. I an now just replacing them due to a skunk incident with the dogs and I am throwing them away not washing them this time is an option. I just hope the new ones holds up as well as the first ones did even after all the washing they received.

As some reviews have stated, this collar strap does not hold up for years on end nor did I ever expect it to. Personally, I have never had ANY collar last indefinitely. Against the elements and a high energy dog, I have no problem replacing the collar strap every few years especially for the price. I like that it buckles on quickly and easily and that I can also adjust the size very easily. Bottom line, this is a good collar that gets the job done and is extremely affordable to replace.

We have two of these callers, one for our dog and one for our son's dog (our son is deploying this month and she is with us for the length of his deployment). The dogs love to play together and occasionally get rough with each other. We have replaced our dog's collar twice in six months because the plastic buckle cannot stand up to two dogs playing. Please consider a different kind of buckle for this strap. Something along the lines of a belt buckle would be preferable to a plastic buckle which continually breaks.

PETSAFE RESPONSE: Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Deb. We appreciate you providing your feedback regarding the design of the collar strap. Please know we do try to provide options which are both durable as well as easy to use for all of our customers. We've found buckle-like straps are difficult for many people to fit properly on their dogs. These types of straps can be a particular challenge for high energy dogs which are still learning to sit still while the receiver collar is being fitted or removed. If you continue to experience any difficulties with your collar straps, please give us a call at 1-866-738-4379 and we'll be happy to see how we can help further.

I thought when my dog's Collar Strap tore, she must have got it caught on something. I have had to sew the strap together so she can go outside. When I logged onto website to order a Replacement Collar Strap and read the reviews, it made more sense that there is an issue with the Collar Strap and not her having caught it on something in the woods. I am not confident that I wouldn't have the same issue with the Replacement Collar Strap, I ordered 2 Replacement Collar Straps. Besides the issue with the strap, I'm happy with the product as a whole.

PETSAFE RESPONSE:

Sorry to hear that your collar strap has broken, Amy! Please ensure that the collar is fit tightly enough on your dog that it does not shift around on the neck, which could loosen it over time. If you continue to have issues with the straps, please give us a call at 1-866-738-4379 and we'd be more than happy to help you out in any way we can.

This is the 5th or 6th collar I've bought over the course of 3-4 years. They just don't last.

PETSAFE RESPONSE:

We're sorry to hear that the collar straps haven't been holding up very well for you, Sharon! Please give us a call at the number 1-866-738-4379 and we would be more than happy to try and figure out what could be causing the collars to wear out so quickly and work out a solution for you.

I'd have to agree with the other reviewers. These collars and the wireless device attached to them could be made a whole lot better. The collar connector cracks easily, the metal leads don't stay screwed in long thus we loose the plastic pieces. Please try to remedy PetSafe! The product is great, it just needs more quality. Thanks! MjM

PETSAFE RESPONSE: Thanks so much for providing us with your feedback, Michael! We appreciate your interest in product improvement. Please know we try to find the right balance with our collar straps between durability and ease of use. With very thick connectors, some people with limited mobility and strength in their hands have difficulties undoing the quick-release buckle. You may also find it helpful to know the stainless steel contact points for most receiver collars are threaded like a screw. This allows the collar strap to be removed for cleaning or replacement or to switch between different sizes of contact points. We recommend checking the contact points weekly in order to ensure the natural motion of your pet walking or running hasn't caused them to loosen. If you have any questions or concerns about your PetSafe product, please give our Customer Care Center a call at 1-800-732-2677. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Eastern and Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern.

I am here ordering a second replacement strap for my Rottweiler/Doberman mix....this is the second time the plastic buckle has broken. Wish it were stronger and more durable. Can the strap not be made with metal buckles?

PETSAFE RESPONSE: We are sorry to hear that the buckle has broken on your replacement collar strap, and we can understand how frustrating it can be to experience this issue. This particular collar's buckle is a "quick release" design and cannot perform as designed if made of metal. We do have other straps that will fit most collars and have the metal belt buckle-style fasteners through our Customer Care Center, and we would be happy to assist you in getting the right strap to best fit your needs. Please contact us at 1-800-732-2677 for more information.

I think these collars are ok for small dogs but a wider, thicker collar is needed for large dogs and the connectors need to be made better. They come undone too easily and wear out fast.

I have had to replace my collar about every nine months as the plastic parts of the collar connector break.

If you buy this to be put on a puppy. Be sure to leave enough room for growing. Perfect overall
